The 2006 season has
been a great success and we would like to take this opportunity
to thank each and every one of our clients and our dedicated TAS
staff for making it possible. South Africa is once again
proving to be the country of choice for hunters all over the
world.
We at Tollie’s African
Safaris are fortunate to have such a wonderful and dedicated
staff who all share the love and passion for what we do and all
of whom who work tirelessly to ensure that all our client's
expectations are exceeded. Our staff is here to ensure that you
have a fabulous and successful safari so please do not hesitate
to contact us with absolutely any queries or enquiries regarding
a safari.
Our PH’s and trackers,
as always, did their best to obtain the best quality trophies in
the time available. In many instances monster trophies are taken
simply by being in the right place at the right time. It
certainly is wonderful to take a really big trophy and everyone
enjoys the moment and excitement but in the same breath I will
say that even a lesser trophy should be enjoyed and appreciated
just as much, as its life is worth the same. Sometimes the most
exciting and nail-biting stalk might yield an average trophy,
but what was lost out on in "those inches" is made up in the
thrill of a great hunt and stalk. These are trophies that
hunters will remember forever. Therefore it is not the record
books that determine a great safari, rather it is the overall
experience, the camaraderie and the service we provide whether
in the field or from the office. The happy campfires, beautiful
animals, golden sunsets and the firm friendships that are formed
determine, in my humble opinion, a great safari!
Also, thanks to you -
our valued client - for your contribution to a great season and
for your support and confidence. Your support, trust and loyalty
is always welcomed and appreciated. As always, we assure you of
our best personal services at all times as we continue to strive
for
quality and excellence.
During 2004 we also
thought of advertising more, we had a look at a few options and
do advertise more in the hunting magazines now. And then we also
decided to make a video for each client hunting here. At the
start we battled a bit, but we learnt quickly and I am sure each
and every client who visited us during the year has enjoyed
their personal video tremendously. We have just finished our
promotional video (in DVD format) with all the
highlights of 2005 and we are very proud of it. So if you are
interested in receiving one, please contact us and we’ll mail
you one.
Another new venture is
Tollie’s Tannery & Taxidermy. Government has
implemented a new law that trophies may only be exported from a
Veterinary approved quarantine dipping station which is
inspected and certified for export. As we do our own dip and
pack of the trophies, to ensure the best quality service for our
clients, we decided to go ahead with the facility. Together with
the dip and pack station we also decided to add a further
service for our clients and started a taxidermy business with
Rudolph Ferreira as the qualified taxidermist. We are fully in
business now and am proud to say that we have mounted a lot of
trophies for our clients this past year and Rudolph did and
excellent job. His work is of a very high standard and top
quality mounts were delivered to our clients.

We had 10 women
in camp on a
WOMEN ON TARGET
hunt. Sandy Froman
(President of the NRA), Pam Zaits (She Safari Clothing),
Karen Mehall (NRA), Shannon Irving, Cyndi Flannigan (Leopold
Scopes). Sue Stephenson, Kelli Frazier, Elinor Huntley,
Esther McGann & Jan Favors. Here are some of
the trophies they have taken.
Elinor Huntley:
Arrived home safe and sound. Thanks both of you for
everything. What a wonderful first experience in Africa. I
told Murray whenever I check references for a hunt, I always
ask the client who has hunted with a specific outfitter,
what would he or she change. Murray turned around and asked
me that same question before our hunt ended. My answer to
him was "Nothing." People have asked me what the highlight
of the trip was and my answer is "being able to share the
success and experiences of the day with 9 other women. The
camaraderie was amazing and within 24 hours we felt like
long lost friends. How lucky and fortunate I am to have
gotten this Birthday present from Richard. I now have 9 new
friends with whom I can share my hunting experiences with.

Esther McGann:
I'm not sure when I will stop smiling over the wonder of our
time together - surely no time soon. My highlight was
after 1 and 1/2 days of hunting we successfully killed a
lovely mountain reedbuck just as the sun was going down. It
was the perfect end to a long day. My guide,
Marthinus, was excellent as well as the outfitter. Tollie
personally took me to the range and helped me overcome a
flinch. One hour later, he guided me to my first black
wildebeest. The personal attention given to each hunter by
Tollie & Karen are great and every PH is focused on the
successful and joyous experience of the hunter. I value the
Christian recognition that all is a gift from God.
Jan Favors:
Thank you so much for all you do. It's all of those little
touches that make your operation stand out above the rest.
Sandy Froman:
I'm going to the bank my first day back in Tucson to open an
account to start saving money for some great trophies for
next year's trip. Thank you all for sharing yourselves
and your experiences with me on this incredible trip.

Kelli Frazier:
Kelli's highlights were the menu's, very fine meals and the
organised and professional operation. My guide, Puren, was
also very professional and patient and has a vast knowledge
of animals and their behaviour and the flora and fauna.

I loved every hunt. My animals were
exceptional and my PH, Andri, was a perfect fit. |

"Colin and I had
the BEST time we could possibly expect to have. Everyone at
Tollie's was just GREAT and made sure we had a wonderful
Safari. We can't say enough nice things about our PH,
"Beans". He was a true professional and did a super job
finding really outstanding trophies for us.This was real
hunting and a great experience for both grandfather and
grandson. Our PH, Beans, was excellent. Best PH and
guide we have ever had. Our entire safari was wonderful.
Karen, I think
both Colin and I MUST go on a diet. The food we were served
was so good and it will be hard to not show up for your
dinners.

"I have now been
gone from South Africa and Tollie’s African Safaris for
around three weeks now and I feel exactly the same as I did
when I got on the airplane in Port Elizabeth to come home to
Tulsa.
I am sick! I am
sick that I only spent five days with Tollie, Karen, Pieter,
Paul, Willem, Beans, Steffan, Puerin, Jaco and all of the
other supporting cast members who have, for all three of our
journeys to Africa, not only found great animals for us, but
opened up their country, their hearts and theirs souls to
us.
When we first,
six years ago, flew to South Africa and visited Tollie and
Karen’s “farm”, I was concerned about mundane things such as
quality animals, personality matches between Personal
Hunters and our family, water quality, food, shelter and
economics. Now, six years later, my only concern is when I
will get back!
I miss the
hunting, the challenges, the shared experiences which I have
had with Melinda, Kelly, Logan, Shelly, Dean, Debbie, Sarah,
Katie, my PH’s, and especially the Jordaan family, whose
values of reverence and love for God, their family and their
friends envelopes all that they do.
My rifles are
back in the gun safe, but they have not been cleaned as yet,
as that seems to close a chapter which I am not ready to
close as yet. I have already begun to make plans for my
next hunt, this time for Sable and Cape Buffalo, hopefully
with the same PH’s which I have come to trust without
question.
Despite having
to journey to Mozambique for such a hunt, I definitely will
come “home” to Somerset East and the “farm”, if for no other
reason than to relax, feast on Eland, Kudu, Nyala,
Springbok, etc., immerse myself in a culture so different
but so valued, and cherish a few more days with great
friends.
It is very hard
to have made such close friends who live a half-a-world
away! We think of you daily." |
